Notes
- As ever, a big thanks to the very wonderful people at sumodb without whom my life would lose all meaning.
- A hatsu banzuke is where a rikishi first appears on the banzuke with a rank of Jk or better. This occurs in the tournament following their hatsu dohyo at Mz (or, pre-1958, Sj).
- Current rikishi are shown in bold.
- Ties are resolved by number of bashos taken (least is best) and then by hatsu banzuke (earliest first).
- If you want to compare two or more rikishi, try this charting page.
- You can click on the shikona and rikishi ids to cross-check claims. I have to say that I have not checked the results super-carefully. If you find an error or have other feedback, please let me know at r/sumo.
- TL; DR. A shikona with a trailing * indicates a possible mismatch between shikona on this page and those used by the rikishi performance graphing module (i.e., what you see if you click on a shikona). In more detail, if a rikishi's current or last shikona is the same as another's then the table correctly disambiguates them as, e.g., "Asahifuji (1964)" and/or "Asahifuji (1981)". On the other hand, the graphing module is not aware of the distinction and you will always be shown the performance of the rikishi who used the name most recently, even if he is not the rikishi in the table.
